Two men are facing the 1st Degree Kidnapping charge after taking a man, who they said owed them money. The men approached the victim and his girlfriend at a hotel, claiming they owed them money for rent and clothing. The woman gave them some cash, but it wasn't enough. The men demanded all the money owed and a cell phone, so they took the man at gunpoint and told the woman he would be released when they got their money and phone. Douglas County First Degree Kidnapping Lawyer: Definition of 1st Degree Kidnapping in Arapahoe County

The Douglas and Arapahoe County, Colorado law definition of First Degree Kidnapping – C.R.S. 18-3-301 – is:

“(1) Any person who does any of the following acts with the intent thereby to force the victim or any other person to make any concession or give up anything of value in order to secure a release of a person under the offender's actual or apparent control commits first degree kidnapping:

(a)  Forcibly seizes and carries any person from one place to another; or

(b)  Entices or persuades any person to go from one place to another; or

(c)  Imprisons or forcibly secretes any person.”

Because the men allegedly held the man until they were paid what they say they were owed, they were, in essence, asking for a thing of value to secure his release.
