Five Fort Collins Men Charged for Soliciting for Prostitution

Posted by Unknown | Dec 14, 2015 | 0 Comments

Last month, five men in Fort Collins were arrested and one other man was cited during a prostitution sting. Police put advertisements in escort sections on websites (like Backpage and Craigslist). When the men responded to the ads and drove to meet women at a Fort Collins hotel, the men found nothing else but empty hotel rooms and police officers in a parking lot, waiting to make arrests. Each man was charged with misdemeanor Soliciting for Prostitution.

Larimer County Soliciting for Prostitution – How It's Charged

Soliciting for Prostitution, C.R.S. 18-7-202, is charged in Larimer and Douglas County whenever someone:

  • Solicits another for the purpose of prostitution; or
  • Arranges or offers to arrange a meeting of persons for the purpose of prostitution; or
  • Directs another to a place knowing such direction is for the purpose of prostitution.

Since the five men allegedly arranged to meet women for the purpose of paying them for sex (prostitution), they were accused of Soliciting for Prostitution. The news story wasn't clear about whether each of the five men were the ones responding to the ads, which makes me wonder if each of them went to the hotel with the intent to pay women to have sex. Some may have tagged along with another person, not even seeing the ad, thinking they wouldn't be paying to have sex. It's always up to a Douglas County prosecutor to prove that someone offered to arrange or arranged a meeting with another person for the purpose of prostitution.

Colorado A Hub for Prostitution – Police Frequently Stage Stings

In Arapahoe and Adams County, Colorado, police are working hard to catch “johns” of soliciting prostitutes, so they stage police stings frequently. According to the news article, Colorado is apparently seen as a hub for sex trafficking and prostitution because of how centralized it is, which means police are cracking down on prostitution cases even more. With the frequency of police sting operations in Colorado, it's becoming easier to be charged or falsely accused of a prostitution-related crime such as Soliciting for Prostitution, even when you're innocent.
