In this week's installment of Simplified Law, we're celebrating the 4th of July by looking at a principle instead of a law. Tomorrow, we are celebrating our nation's independence. We often take the word “independence” for granted – after all, we simply enjoy the fruits of our founding fathers fought so many years ago. Today, we're going to look closely at this word and see how it applies to what we do as criminal defense attorneys in Denver, Adams, and Jefferson County.
What is Independence?
According to Webster's 1828 Dictionary, independence is:
Independ'ence. n.
- A state of being not dependent; complete exemption from control, or the power of others.
- A state in which a person does not rely on others for substinence; ability to support one's self.
- A state of mind in which a person acts without bias or influence from others; exemption from undue influence; self-direction.
As you can see, independence involves freedom, and is a wonderful thing. We believe independence is a right which every person should exercise. After all, isn't that what we're celebrating tomorrow?

Here at the O'Malley Law Office, we practice 100% criminal law. What does this mean? It means we don't dabble in other cases, such as divorce law, bankruptcy law, or civil law. We focus only on the laws which pertain to you and your case, and we have a thorough understanding of the way the courts work in Arapahoe, Douglas, and Larimer County and across Colorado. Because we're not spread too thin, we notice important details which are vital in your case.
