“(1)(a) If a person operates or drives a motor vehicle in a reckless manner, and such conduct is the proximate cause of the death of another, such person commits vehicular homicide. (b) (I) If a person operates or drives a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or one or more drugs, or a combination of both alcohol and one or more drugs, and such conduct is the proximate cause of the death of another, such person commits vehicular homicide. This is a strict liability crime.”

Because the man allegedly drove his car in a reckless manner and caused the woman's death, it's likely he would face charges of Vehicular Homicide, a felony in Colorado.

Vehicular Homicide a Class 3 or Class 4 Felony in Jefferson County, Colorado

Vehicular Homicide can be sentenced as either a class 3 or class 4 felony in Jefferson County and across Colorado. Vehicular Homicide is a class 4 felony if a person drives a vehicle recklessly causes the death of another, which could result in up to a 6 year prison sentence if convicted. However, Vehicular Homicide is a class 3 felony if someone drives a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol, or a combination of both, and causes the death of another person. A class 3 felony carries up to a 12 year prison sentence if convicted.
